I just upgraded to a Windows 7 Home Premium netbook and set up DayNotez which I am using and syncing OK to my TX, but it is very, very slow at times, with regular 'not responding' messages. Is this going to be normal with Windows 7?
Also the dates format in the custom view is not correct ie 3/24/2011 rather than my preferred 24/3/2011, which seems to be OK in other views. Is this a bug?

Are you running Windows 7 32 or 64 bit? Palm does not support 64bit and 32 bit installs are kind of "may or may not work". Is the slowdown only on DayNotez itself syncing, or on other things also? What version of DayNotez are you running?

From the Palm website:

Information about Windows 7 and 64-bit editions of Windows:
  • Windows 7: Many users have successfully installed and run Palm Desktop 6.2 software with Windows 7. Palm has not done thorough testing with a range of third-party equipment running Windows 7, therefore Palm cannot guarantee compatibility.
  • 64-bit editions of Windows: USB HotSync is not supported. Instead, synchronize through a Bluetooth wireless connection: set up Bluetooth HotSync.

Date columns in the custom view are based on your regional settings in Windows. Check the control panel "Region and Language" settings for how you have the short date configured.

It's Windows 7 32 bit & DayNotez 1.7.4 build 255

Palm Desktop 6.2.2 seems to work fine.

The areas I've noticed DayNotez is very slow are initial loading, creating a new entry, deleting an entry. I hadn't noticed that it was slow syncing.

I've got the date settings correct in control panel and the format is OK on the entry view, but not in the columns on the custom view

Hello,
I experience the same difficulty with the format of the date since I moved last week from Windows XP to Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bits).
Instead of displaying "28/3/2011" as defined in the Control Panel, I get 3/28/2001.

The synchronisation between Windows 7 and my Smartphone is running OK. Yet I noticed the following bug : all my notes are synchronised, even if I set up "only the 4 past weeks + the next 2 weeks". I deleted the parntership, tried again, same result. I would appreciate if you had a hint to solve this, thanks.
Best regards
Darius

Syncing of a Palm OS device and a Windows Mobile device are totally different (and mostly unrelated). I don't have an answer for either one of you right now. Perhaps Richard has some insight into the Windows Mobile sync though.

Could either of you tell me what your settings for dates are in the "Region and Language" panel is so that I can try to reproduce the date formatting issue? Native language, short and long date formatting, etc.
Also, if you add either the "Created" or "Last Modified" columns to your custom display, are they showing up correctly or the same as the date column?

Dec. Have you tried setting the DayNotez Desktop filter for limited the number of entries loaded upon startup?

Menu item Edit->Preferences->General Tab-> "Load entries starting from date: "

It might also help if you could send me your .dnz and .mdw files so that I can see if I can figure out the delays you are seeing. Database load and create times are generally due to something being up with the database files. I'm assuming you may have a large number of entries.

Hi

Dates settings attached (I hope) Created & Last Modifed show the same effect.

It is a little faster with limited entries - I have ~3000 at present - but still slow

The .dnz file is big (~7MB) so a bit big to send. Is there any way I can try a smaller file to see if that is the issue?

Thanks for help - by the way I hadn't realised I could sync via bluetooth which is a big benefit

One other thing I have noticed - the spellchecker works, but now doesn't highlight the checked word

Regards

Just posting to say that my solution has been to stop using DayNotez & for that matter the Palm Desktop.

I've reverted to another program I used in the past, Personal Knowbase. It runs very well in Windows 7, and has a very clean/elegant desktop & good implementation of keywords. Thank you Natara for several years of very productive use, and for having a good csv export option which enabled me to transfer ~3000 articles into Knowbase. Something I couldn't do with Evernote which I also considered.

Of course I can't sync directly anymore with my TX, but I've ditched that as well. I now copy each new article into Google Calendar, and can search using the brilliant Google Account Search app on my Palm Pre. As long as I have a data signal this works even better than the DayNotez/TX method to find info. I was able to import all my old articles into Google Calendar from my Palm calendar, as I had always copied each DayNotez article into a Palm calendar event.

I wasn't convinced before, but 'cloud computing' is great!

Hello Bryan,

Unlike the OP I am still using DayNotez on my PalmOS machine and Windows Vista. My symptoms are identical to his, right down to the number of notes (just over 3000).

The desktop ran fine on Windows XP, but is slow on initial startup and creating a new note, exactly as described earlier. I hope that the file he sent can help you find the bottleneck in the desktop edition! It is almost certainly related to running it on Vista and Win7, vs. XP.

Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Regards, Bert
