I discovered this app in the Android market which can import Bonsai format files.

http://android-outliner.blogspot.com/

It's called Outliner. It's not as complete as Natara would produce, but using the Natara Windows Desktop and Dropbox to "sync" it works perfectly. It imports the Desktop files cleanly. I certainly would pay for a version from Natara, but for now I'm going to be purchasing the Bonsai Windows desktop (I've been trialing it to test the program).

Please consider this another plea for an Android version of Bonsai.

Sorry for posting in this thread - tried sending you a private message, but system said your username could not use PM features.

I saw your post about the Android app Outliner. I found it in the Android Market and saw the description that mentioned Bonsai imports. I came to the Natara forums to see if there was discussion about the app, but your post seems to be the only one.

How did you go about importing your Bonsai outlines into Outliner? I assume you did a CSV export from Bonsai. Did you have to do any formatting with the data before importing to Outliner? How does the import work? Do you simply place the CSV file on the phone or phone card's file structure?

Thanks for any help/direction you can provide.

Never mind. It was pretty easy. Instructions were in the 'Tutorial' outline.

This is pretty cool. Outliner is no Bonsai for Android - but it's something.

Sorry I didn't notice the reply earlier. I probably need X number of posts before I can get PMs. ;)

Glad you solved it. Yup, not as good as Bonsai for Android, but it works.

Hi,

I just was testing the same solution, works ok, but its not true sync you need to import and export from dropbox

I am a natara user for many years, and I am testing the android platform for my PIM and personal data managment.

Android is winning me

PIM: Pimlical for Android (Datebk5 developer) (Ok)
Passkeeper: SplashID (Ok)
Outliner: Testing natara for windows on desktop with android-outliner

Also my vote for Natara for Android

Cheers,

Pedro Branco

Glad to hear about Outliner! Currently a WinMo user (incl. Bonsai) but Android is probably in my future. Thanks for posting!

I wonder how you set up "sync" between desktop and Android application. Do you actually export it from Outliner to CSV before every sync, then sync with DropBox, and then Import it again on Android to Outliner? (I'm not very knowledgeable on DropBox, but I can't easily imagine any other scenario).

And Outliner doesn't hide/filter out any items (even completed ones--not to mention things like "future Start Date" or "limit to categories A and B"), right?

Sorry, I don't use Bonsai for to-do lists. Not really much of a task list person. Mostly just keep floating reminders on my calendar of things I need to do.

I use Bonsai and the Android strictly as an Outliner. I do most of my work on the desktop and use it on the handheld to refer to while I'm writing. Yes, "sync" is via dropbox. With dropbox, I rarely use a USB cable anymore.

I'm using "Companion Link" to transfer my information from my Palm desktop to my android phone.
Screw "Bonsai"! I am using an android program called "Note Everything" which I am finding for me is just as useful as Bonsai used to be. It has a simple outliner – type program which is good enough for me.
(I never even took the time to figure out how to export all the stuff I accumulated in bonsai over the years) – I have all ready manually grabbed all my most important stuff out of bonsai, & "dropboxed" them to my android phone.

Hi,

Outliner V0.8.0 beta is preparing to sync with natara bonsai using dropbox

Its not a full outliner but it can be handy to access your notes.

Yup, this long time Palm user (Treo 180, Treo 650, Treo 680) has ordered his first Android handset. A user of Pimlical (PC) and Datebk6 (Treo) I now feel it is now time to move to a better supported platform, as well as a more capable handset. The hard part is possibly having to leave behind much loved apps, though it is my hope that the more forward thinking vendors will move to offer their apps, e.g. Bonsai, on Android, much as Pimlico Software has chosen to do.

So there's my vote for Natara to embrace Android.

I'm likely moving to Android in August. I'd buy Bonsai for Android in a heart beat.

There's tens of thousands of Android apps out there, but there is still nothing to match the old Palm OS mobile/desktop combo.

I've no idea why Natura are messing about with Windows Mobile, but I wish they'd sort out a proper Android app before someone else beats them to it.

the things that's most worrying, is the silence from natara.
Do they have plans about android ? is there anyone willing to keep the good work made on Bonsai alive ?
I think i've never seen so much people willing to stay on a platform (palm) just for one application (bonsai).
The longer Natara waits, the more people will have found another workaround solution

too bad !!

Keep an eye on this one:

http://www.irtgtasksoutliner.com/home

- They've got a stated intention to import/export and sync with Bonsai.

Here's hoping...

Judging by experience with Android Outliner, even after Bonsai syncing is implemented, it easily takes many releases spanning half a year to debug and resolve all the misplacement and faux conflict issues - and yet have some risk of misplacements happening. The sync technology is quite complicated in general, regardless of Bonsai implementation - and things are even more difficult when you can't control or even debug desktop-side application.

:(

Some day, some day, we'll be back at the level of functionality we had with our Palms...

If only the graffiti input still worked properly on my E2, I wouldn't be having to look round for a Bonsai replacement.
