Hi,

For some reason I cannot seem to sync / update my desktop outlines to my handheld. The Hotsync log shows it being successful, but the handheld outline list never changes and out of the 5 showing synchronization, only 3 of the 5 show up on the handheld outline list.

Natara Bonsai starting...
Overwrite handheld outline categories with desktop copy.

Now I did have the situation with duplicate users that had different cases. I deleted one user and the remaining one now shows up in the "users" but that didn't help. Created a new outline and enabled sync to no avail. I am working with the following release.

Sounds like you verified the common things when dealing with a sync issue. Are you sure you have Bonsai 4.2.5 installed on the Palm? Did you try doing a View/Refresh in Bonsai on the Palm from the outline manager screen? Are you sure the HotSync log you included about is from a current HotSync operation? Other tips can be found here.

The About says 4.2.5 on both the handheld and the desktop and the HotSync log is correct as the date / time match.

Interesting... bear with me. I tried a refresh of the outlines (which I had never done before) and the handheld immediately rebooted, after coming back up I refreshed the outlines again, now it does not reboot and I see the correct outline list. cool... So I tried to open an outline and it reboots again. Now it's back to the previous outline list that has missing ones. Hmmm So I repeat the refresh and all show up again but an attempt at opening one causes a reboot :( So then I get it back to the fully populated outline list and decide to do a HotSync before attempting to open and outline. That completes and now I can actually open the outlines.. but the outlines do not match what is on the current desktop.

It seem like the Handheld is getting sync'd to an old outline DB. So I search for OTL files and find them in two places. I see the Handheld is syncing from a different place then where the Bonsai desktop files are being worked from. I copy over one file to where I think the handheld is syncing to and now it is updated properly.

Now how can I straighten this out? I see 2 bonsai config.dat files, is there a way I can get the handheld to point to the right one?

In Bonsai on the PC, use the File/Select User menu and select the correct HotSync name. Once that user is opened, you will be able to update the outline manager to point to the correct outline files. It sounds like you have the same outline in two different folders on the PC and this "Bonsai user" is referencing the wrong version. If this is the case, I would do the following (assumes your PC version of the outlines are up-to-date and your Palm outlines are old versions that do not have any unique data to be synced with the PC):

• Backup your outlines (.OTL files) on your PC to be safe.
  
• Examine the "Location" field in Bonsai outline manager on the PC to verify it is referencing the outline in the wrong folder.
  
• From outline manager on the PC, use the Delete/Delete from Desktop and Handheld context menu to remove the obsolete version of the outline both on the PC and the Palm.
  
• HotSync. The outline will be removed from the Palm.
  
• Use the File/Open menu to open the current version of the outline. This will also add the outline to the outline manager. If it does not, close the outline and open again.
  
• Mark the outline for synchronization.
  
• HotSync. The current outline version will be copied to your Palm.
  
• Repeat the above steps for your other outlines that were not syncing.
