Although this Natara forum may not be an appropriate venue, I, for one, would appreciate your posting where you end up. Since I, as well, am keeping my eyes and ears open for the best alternative solution.
...
Good luck in your quest. Please do let us know how you make out.

JFYI: I tried to summarize the alternatives I've seen so far:

There are already some updates I didn't incorporate into the original post, however please feel free to contribute to the discussion without waiting for update in original post.

I am in the same boat as others here. My Z22 started to experience touchscreen issues, so...

Got a Samsung Dart (very cheap Android phone, works with T-Mobile prepaid (also very cheap).

I was shocked to find a lack of sophistication in the smart phone market for organization apps compared to where Palm was 10 years ago or more!

One idea for folks: "Pocket Informant"--does not have a desktop app, but appears to be pretty sophisticated in many ways. This app (and alot of others (like "My Life Organized") base their outliners on the "Getting Things Done" book (search for "GTD" in the Android Market). I never read it, but it must be big. (I have never been much of a joiner.)

Just for fun, I am going to try going a different way:
HK Kalender (an unbelievably simple but slick calendar; unfortunately it doesn't even have alarms (as best I can tell--the developer is Danish and the instructions are not exactly intuitive), let alone repeating events; combine that with

A desktop alarm system for the phone (looking at "MyClock")--I will set alarms every morning for my appointments and timed todos--I think it might be a good discipline for me. and...

Android Outliner (which has been mentioned elsewhere here). The developer seems motivated to make this good and appears to synch with Bonsai (in some way) and the connection with Bonsai will probably get better. I love the simplicity of it, and I think it will get better over time. It is certainly better than nothing and a great antidote to the hyper-cute, hyper-graphical apps that are common on android.

Me too - You have to come out with an Android version of Bonsai and I suppose an iPhone one too.

Pete - How is the experience with Android Outliner going? Is the sync to Bonsai desktop functional?

There are many posts in different forums all along the same lines - moving on from the Bonsai Palm <> Bonsai Desktop environment. In some cases the advocacy is toward a different system such as MLO Mobile <> MLO Desktop. I like the idea of perhaps an alternative: Outliner Android <> Bonsai Desktop.

Just wish the commercial or open-source software world would see the value in wresting Bonsai from the grave.

BTW, my earlier lament of lacking a 64-bit USB sync driver is over. Other posts note that such a driver has been created, and for me it means that a 12 year old M500 is back in service. But I really would like to have to carry just one device, ie a smartphone that is Bonsai-able.

I have been using Bonsai for a least a decade, and have struggled with the WinMobile or Palm Treo format. My old Palm M500 was a tried and true standby. I've finally entered the 21st Century with an htc Incredible 2 Android phone and found two outlining apps that purport to "sync" with Bonsai (they do import/export)

Android Outliner: http://android-outliner.blogspot.com/
iRT GTasks Outliner: http://www.irtgtasksoutliner.com/

I'm still exploring these. iRT GTasks is much more colorful and featured. I have yet to explore DropBox for real-time wireless sync.

However, I would encourage the group to explore both of these, especially iRT GTasks. It seems that both of these explicitly acknowledge the value of Bonsai. I suppose Natara should be proud of its invention. (??!!)

I'm going to put this post in a number of places.

Thank you so much for your post. Do please keep us updated with your experiences, good / bad.

iRT looks particularly promising, at least from the screen shots, thank you for noting it. (My Treo 680 hasn't died yet, but the batteries are getting iffy! So I don't yet have Android. Like many, I expect it's inevitable.)

Given the accompanying iRT Calendar, http://www.irtcalend.../irtcalendarpro, which looks to be an equivalent to Agendus, it looks like, finally, multi-tiered tasks integrated with a calendar is now possible. If not implemented at the moment, this is the first thing I've come across where the fundamentals for such look to be in place.

Do please keep these notes coming.
