I've seen topics about syncing the desktop version with Outlook and I understand that's not possible, but is it possible to just run the Desktop in stand alone mode? I switched to iPod Touch months ago and haven't bothered to install the Palm and Palm software on my new computer. I wanted to use the Bonsai Desktop just for the outlining feature (it's the best outliner I've ever used) but the registration page keeps looking for a handheld user name that isn't there. Is there a way to get around this without dragging out my old Palm software?

Yes, this is supported in Bonsai 4 and newer versions of the software. With Bonsai v5, in the registration dialog when the "Desktop Only Registration" user is selected, you can enter your HotSync name in the email address field and the registration number to register the desktop version of Bonsai. I know this is non-intuitive, but the registration number is geared for a Palm OS license meaning the number is generated based on the HotSync name rather than the email address.
If you have Bonsai 4, you will need to email support and request a desktop only registration number. Please provide some detail about your Palm OS license (any one of the following is enough: order number, registration number, email address used when registering the product or any other identifiable details about your license purchase).

Definitely worth the effort, too. I have been scouring the web for my alternatives when I finally transition off the Palm platform, and Bonsai really seems to be the standard by which all the others are measured.

I still am looking for an acceptable solution; hate to give up Bonsai but the pickins are slim for the kind of device + sync value we have been spoiled on with Palm. None of the offerings out there for Android or iPhone that are claimed to be good "outliners" hold a candle to Bonsai.

Alas, though... will probably do iPhone and Carbonfin Outliner... but haven't made the switch just yet.
