Bonsai V.5 Rendered Unusable Due To "Find" Function

I just upgraded to Bonsai v.5. The "find" function searches for the string "one character at a time" and has rendered Bonsai v.5 essentially unusable to me.

I have a huge outline that is carefully organized with appropriate branches expanded and closed depending on what I'm working with. The new "find" function expands trees as each character of the search string is input. By the time the entire string is entered, yes, it has found the final string as a whole, but I may have multiple trees expanded that were previously closed. Use the "find" function a few times and my whole outline is a mess and I have to go back and close all the branches except the ones I had opened. Annoying and, what's worse, unnecessary.

I'm a huge Bonsai fan but you guys really made a boo-boo here if there is no option to have it NOT search "one character at a time" and instead just find the "whole string" once entered.

Is there? If not, how do I "downgrade" back to v.4?

This isn't quite as disruptive for me personally, but I do agree that this search method should be a choice. The "search as you type" started popping up more frequently when desktop search apps got popular. I guess it's cool to quickly show results like that - and it's fairly easy to implement with indexed data. But that's one feature I always turn off. I am OK with typing my search term then pressing Enter to initiate a search. It's frustrating to search for "example" and accidentally type "exp" and start getting results you don't want.

The reason it's a particular problem in Bonsai is that most search functions (e.g. Thunderbird email) search the data and show results, in Bonsai the search function actually changes the state of the outline.

While I'm not familiar with the implementation details underlying the display (which are probably different across different platforms) it should be possible for the search box to remember if it has changed the display state of the outline. If it has made a change then it should undo it when the search term changes or find next is pressed. So if I've typed 'ex' and this has resulted in an item being expanded, then the expansion should be undone if I type another letter (or backspace) or if I hit find next. If I close the search box the result remains hilighted.

I'm also very annoyed with how the 5.x search behaves; 4.x was much more obvious and non-destructive.
I'm sure there are ways to improve 5.x to make it non-destructive but still searching-as-you-type; I can try to detail this if Natara guys are interested.
