I ran into a weird problem with DayNotez on my PDA today. I can't add a new note without the PDA locking up and giving the following error message:

Fatal Alert
DataMgr.c, Line:9524, Index Out of Range

If I reset the PDA (by pressing the reset switch in back), after restarting, if I try again to input a note, I get the same error.

But now I'm wondering if there is a limit to the number of DayNotez entries, because if I delete one note, I can create a single note without a crash. If I delete 5 notes, I can create 5 new ones, etc.

This is DayNotez Palm OS version 2.9.1 build 1870 on a Sony Clie NX-70.

My DayNotez database is huge, and aside from looking up addresses, DayNotez is the main thing I do with my PDA. I backup all my files to a memory card, but I stopped HotSyncing to my desktop PC a couple of years ago, because the synching of DayNotez was the slowest part of the HotSync process and could bog down my computer for an hour.

I don't recall any item limitations on v2 but I may be wrong. Version 2.9.1 was released over 4 years ago so I don't recall all the issues it may have had. There was a 2.9.2 release which you can install for free. Discontinued releases are located on our support page HERE.

Since the NX-70 is a Palm OS5 device, you might want to check out DayNotez v3. First make a good backup copy of your data file (DayNotezDB.PDB) prior to installing and testing out v3. Version 3 converts the data file and once converted it is not backward compatible. If you decide to go back to version 2 you would need to re-install the older .PDB file also. I think that there may have been some optimizations done on HotSync with version 3 also that allows DayNotez to be more aggressive at only syncing changed entries.

In general though, the limitations on the Palm side of things are mainly due to memory constraints of your device. Not much has changed limitation wise between DayNotez v2 and v3, which are listed HERE

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into backups and upgrades.
