Bonsai for Windows Version 4.2.8 Beta
Build 3102
Windows XP
Windows Mobile 6.1 on phone/pda (Samsung i-760)

I have created outlines on both desktop & pda, but neither sync.

I have checked username which is correct on both.

In ActiveSync window, Bonsai is listed with the note "Looking for changes"

Attached the bonsaisynclog.txt files.

Any suggestions?

Looking at the log, Bonsai seems to be syncing. Are you sure the correct user is selected in Bonsai on the PC using the File/Select User menu?

The correct user is selected on Bonsai on the PC. However, I think I may have found the problem but still no solution. When I open MS ActiveSync on my phone, go the Menu/Options and Under the screen "Choose the data you want to sync" Bonsai is listed under Windows PC. However it shows a greyed out box that is unchecked. I cannot check it or change the settings on it. I reckon this is an MS ActiveSync problem?

Any suggestions?

Try running the "Start/Programs/Natara Software/Install Bonsai on Windows Mobile OS Device" shortcut and follow the wizard instructions. If it finds anything wrong with the Bonsai sync configuration, it will repair it. If everything checks out, it will give you the option to reinstall the Bonsai components. If so, try reinstalling just the Bonsai component (the default) and see if that helps.
If that does not help, reply and attach your Bonsai log form your handheld found at \Application Data\Natara\Bonsai\BonsaiSyncLog.txt.

I have a similar problem in that it crashes when it tries to sync my existing bonsai files. Running on XP. Completely messes up Activesync; I have to reboot to get it back.

Do you know if a .dmp file is created after the crash? If so, email it to support [at] natara.com. I would disable the syncing of all of your outlines and then add them one at a time to see if a particular outline is responsible. If you could email this outline, that would be very helpful.
Is this the first time you are using the Bonsai for Windows Mobile beta or has it worked in the past?

I did not find "Natara Software" under Start/Programs on my Mobile OS. I did a check for update and re-installed Bonsai.

Sorry for the mis-understanding; both the shortcut and the log file I referred to were from the PC not the mobile device. Try locating and running the "Install Bonsai on Windows Mobile OS Device" and see if that helps. If not, try sending the log file.
One other idea, is Bonsai on the PC reporting that the trial has expired when the Windows Mobile user is selected from the File/Open User menu?

No, Registered Bonsai to avoid that that issue :-)

A couple things to note:
- I run Bonsai on two different PCs (one at work and another at home).
- I sync different files at work, than I do at home.
- I can still open the files and make changes, but those changes are not synchronized

I see the error in the log be no details about what failed. Please configure "logging during synchronization" to diagnostic on the View/Global Settings menu Synchronization tab. After running the sync with diagnostics enabled, return to the global settings synchronization tab and click the view log button. Reply and attach the new log.

Note that these Outlines were stored on the Treo Storage card.
Today, my Treo Storage card was unresponsive... I had to replace it.
I manually copied the OTL files from the PC to the Treo.
- They still will not synchronize.

Also note that BonsaiSyncLog ( I have attached other copies earlier) show the same error:

I think you can ignore the "Archive data corrupt" message. I have seen that in other logs too and I need to investigate further but I believe this is an erroneous error. The diagnostic log did not attempt to sync any outlines so I could not determine what is wrong. Please delete the existing log if possible, modify one of the outlines on the PC and then connect your device to start the sync. That should produce the log I need to see.

Thanks... This helped a lot. The log file had an entry that said:

I went and checked (Menu -> Details) and sure enough the Synchronize was not set. I don't know when this got checked off. It may have been when my storage card failed and I had to manually copy the files to it.

Anyway. I checked Synchronize and the outline did synchronize this time.

It is synchronizing with both my work and my home PC. My intent was to synch at home, but not at work... How I do that? When I delete the file from my desktop at work, it turns off the Synchronize flag in my mobile. So it will not synch with my home PC. If I turn it on, then it starts synching with both PCs again.

On the work PC, did you try the Delete/From Desktop option (right click the outline on the PC in the Bonsai outline manager to open the context menu)? This should disable the synchronization of the outline for the work PC but not the home PC. Is this not working correctly?

Yes. After I did that:

The outline in the Work PC got deleted.
The outline in the Mobile device was still present.
The "synchronize" flag in the Mobile device was turned off.

Since the "synchronize" flag was turned off, the outline no longer synchronized with my home PCs. The outlines were still there in the home PC and the mobile device, but changes I would make did not get synchronized.

Once I turn on the "synchronize" flag back on, the outline started to synchronize again.. However, when I connected my Mobile device to my work PC, it put a copy of the outline there, even though I had deleted it earlier.

That is not the way it was intended to work. I look into this and try to get itfixed in a future build.

I'm using Windows XP Pro and Windows mobile 6.1 on an Ipaq 110. I had previously purchased and installed Bonsai for Palm + Desktop (which is still on the computer, though Palm not presently being used). I am using 428 Beta release of Bonsai

I have Bonsai outlines on a SD card on the Ipaq.

Here is what is going on: Bonsai does not appear to by syncing even though check box is set to sync. I recreated some outlines because of the sync problem to see if they would sync. Still no success.

Active sync reports 1 unresolved item, when I try to resolve, it runs through the process then reports 2 unresolved items. There appears to be no way to resolve these items.

For synchronization, I have been able to do a work around procedure by using MobSync to synchronize changed files back and forth between desktop and Ipaq. Of course this syncs the complete file, not an item by item sync, but at least the record is synchronized.

1. I would like to resolve the 2 unresolved items that AS reports in Bonsai.

2. I would like to be able to sync files through Bonsai and AS since MobSync is a manual run and sometimes I forget to do it before disconnecting Ipaq

I have attached sync log in case it might help. (Well tried to upload/attach but was rejected)
