I just installed the Beta version and I would like to report two issues:

1. After the upgrade, all my outlines disappeard from the Outline Manager. I could still see them in the outline tabs, but not on the outline manager. Clossing the outline and reopening it would make it reapper, however the category that I previously had set was reset to "Unfiled".

2. The outline preferences were not synchronized. The outline synchronized OK, but the prefrences set in the PC ("None" for numbering) did not get transferred to my Treo Pro. The Treo still showed up the numbering preference as 1,2,3.

I also have a couple of questions:

1. Is it safe to install this Bonsai on mutliple PCs? Can I select which files to synch on each PC? This worked with my Palm Treo 650 where I synched some files with my work PC and a different set from my home PC.

2. Can I synch to both devices (my old Treo 650 (Palm) and my new Treo Pro (Windows Mobile)) from the same PC?

Each device that syncs with Bonsai will have its own configuration. You can switch between these configurations using the File/Select User menu. You need to add the outlines to the outline manager for this new user by closing and reopening as you have done. I assume the category needs to be added to the outline manager configuration before it will be picked up and displayed. I'll verify this and let you know.

I'll look into this.

Yes. You need to configure this in the outline manager from the PC.

Yes, but syncing the same outline to both devices is not supported.

Thank you very much, for your immediate and informative response!!!

I switched users and was able to see all outlines I was synching earlier.

I order not to see the the numbers, I went to Options -> Outline Options -> and unckecked "Show Numbers". It then failed with:

An unexpected error has occurred in BonsaiPPC.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.

I clicked on details and it gave me the following:

BonsaiPPC.exe

For the original issue #1, Bonsai will not automatically add a category to the outline manager when opening an outline. I believe this is as designed, since you might be opening an outline supplied by someone else and may not want it added to your category list. This was particularly important for Palm OS uses, since they are limited to 16 categories. I'll add this as a possible future enhancement.

For issue #2, the outline preferences such as the outline numbering is not synced between the PC and handheld. The thinking is the screen size differences of the displays may lead to the user wanting different settings on the PC verses the handheld. Both the handheld and the PC have a configuration for "Menu/Options/New outline options" ("View/New outline defaults" on the PC) for initializing these settings when a new outline is created. These settings are also used when syncing an outline to the other device for the first time. For example, if you create an outline on the PC and then sync it to the handheld, the outline on the handheld will use the "new outline options" settings from the handheld for this initial version of the handheld outline file.

I am looking into the unhandled exception you reported and should have this resolved for the next beta.

Another issue that I saw, is that the outline will retain the original category at first, when you first open it as a new user. But then later, it changes it to Unfiled.
