Desktop
Bonsai Version 4.2.8 beta build 2961
Windows: Vista SP1 x64
Windows Mobile
Bonsai Version 4.2.8.2961
Windows Mobile version 6.1

I have several outlines on my desktop marked as "Sync: Yes", but none of them ever show up on my PDA. I re-installed build 2961, then reset the PDA and re-synced, but nothing no outlines are copied.

Note: during the install, the wizard sat at the "waiting for inital sync" (or whatever the wording is of the last line of the Mobile install stats screen in the installation wizard) for a while, then timed out and said I should soft-reset the PDA because the inital sync never completed. I tried that, but it didn't help.

I did get one outline onto the PDA during an earlier beta by manually copying the file. It is still there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Did you check to see if the correct user is selected from the File/Select User menu in Bonsai on the PC? If this is not the problem, please reply with the %appdata%\natara\BonsaiSyncLog.txt log file where %appdata% is the path the the application data folder (for Vista this defaults to C:\Users\RMurphy\AppData\Roaming). You should be able to simply reply and click the "Browse..." button in the attachments area and enter "%appdata%\natara\BonsaiSyncLog.txt" and Windows will expand the %appsdata% variable for you.

Thanks for the response! That revealed a new clue: when I click on File/Select User, I get the error:

"This command is used when Bonsai outlines are synchronized with a handheld. Bonsai has not found any user names associated with Palm or Windows Mobile devices on this computer. If you have a device be sure Bonsai has been installed on it and you have successfully synchronized with this desktop."

The folder "C:\Users\Michael\AppData\Roaming\Natara" doesn't have a file named BonsaiSyncLog.txt in it.

I do have Bonsai installed and working on my Windows Mobile PDA. What next?

It sounds like the Bonsai sync is not installed or running. Since you have Windows Vista, open the Windows Mobile Device Center (click the Windows Start button and enter "Windows Mobile" and click the shortcut once the start menu locates it). With your device connected, open the "Mobile Device Settings/Change content sync settings" and verify that Bonsai is listed and is enabled.
It is also possible that Bonsai believes that the trial has expired but if this is the case I would expect the Bonsai user to have been created so I don't think that is the problem. If the trial is expired you will see a message during the sync. Please refer to this thread for an evaluation number for this beta.

It seems as I have a different "not syncing" problem: I have just acquired a Treo Pro, installed Active Sync 4.5, then the Bonsai Windows Mobile & Desktop package. I did have the Bonsai Desktop already (setup to work with a Palm Treo 700p). Installation proceeded, but after installation on the Treo Pro, Bonsai on the Pro asked to check for updates. I let it go through that process, but each time after installation, it started that process again. On the PC side, I was able to establish a "Treo" user with the evaluation code, close outlines, and then open them up again under "Treo". I could set them to sync, (removing sync under the previous user), but they never showed up on the Treo Pro. As noted every time I launch Bonsai on the Pro I asks "Would you lie to check if a net bet is available? If I hit OK, it gives me a list and indicates Bonsai for Windows Mobile is "Up-to-date". If I close that screen, I still see not outlines.

Any ideas

 Well, I found the solution!! The Windows Desktop had as its default outline directory C:\Program Files\Natara\Bonsai. The Palm HotSync did fine with the files there. ActiveSync for WinMobile uses a directory under My Documents called "Treo My Documents". If I move the outlines there, and open them up in the Desktop from that directory, everything syncs just fine. The PPC WinMobile Bonsai finds those outliens, and the Windows Desktop finds those outlines.

Hope this might help others.

I had the identical problem switching from a TX to a Treo Pro. I moved my outlines from "C:\Program Files\Natara\Bonsai" to "My Documents\Natara\Bonsai" and they all sync properly. I did this transformation awhile ago so I do not remember exactly what led to using that path but it seems to be independent of the ActiveSync directory ("My Documents\username My Documents"). The directory is pointed to from within Bonsai - View|Global Settings...|Synchronization. Initially I tried to just point Bonsai to "C:\Program Files\Natara\Bonsai" but that did not solve the problem.
