Hi,
I link my To Do's in Bonsai with the Task app in Palm. My problem is this;
Bonsai has 3 fields for dates relating to an item; Start Date, Due Date & Completed Date
The Palm Task app has only 1 field; Due Date.
When an item is checked as completed in Bonsai, the completed date is set (correctly). However, the Task app lacks this field so the due date there is not set (sometimes). If I do it the other way, checking the item as complete in Task, then Due date is set in both apps but completed date in Bonsai remains unset.
I actually use Datebk instead to view my Tasks and it would be nice if ticking off a linked item as done in either app (I don't care which way) would result in the Due Date field being set in the Tasks app and the Completed Date being set in the Bonsai app. The Due date not being set in the Task app means the task keeps on showing up in today's list of tasks, despite being complete. What's odd is that this desirable behaviour does occur, but it seems to be intermittent. Is there any way to ensure this behaviour.
I'm using Bonsai 4.2.7 and Back2Bonsai on a Treo 680.
thanks
P.S. Sorry if this has been answered before but the search function on this forum seems screwy. Only allows me to search for a single word at a time.

Syncing Bonsai dates with Palm Task dates

I did a quick test here but could not reproduce this. I'll forward the question to the Palm developer and see if he has any ideas.

Actually, the Palm Tasks application does have 2 dates in its database; a Due date and a Completion date.
The original Palm To Do application only had a single date that served double duty.
However, the Palm application only shows one date at a time on the screen. If the task is not complete the due date is shown, and it will show the Completion date when you check off the task. There is an option you must check, "Record Completion Date' under the Preferences dialog for the Tasks application.
You can then demonstrate that there are 2 dates by setting a date other than today as the due date and check and uncheck the task. The date will toggle back and forth.
Bonsai does its best to update the appropriate dates in the Tasks database. To do this it updates the enhanced tasks database. Not many applications do that. Most just deal with the old legacy To Do database that is maintained by Palm for compatibility.
First check that you have the Record Completion Date option set.
Otherwise, it is most likely an issue with DateBk. Are you using a current version?

Hi George,
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that.
Yes, Record Completion Date is checked off in Tasks. It must be an issue with Datebk then, but I am using the latest version (6.1a).
I checked again. If I mark a task as complete in Datebk, it sets the Due Date field in the Bonsai item (which is semantically incorrect in my opinion). If I check it in Tasks, then the Completed Date field is set in Bonsai, which is the way it should be.
I will take it up with Datebk.
Thanks for your help.

Hi George,
Just following up some more. (Still trying to get hold of Datebk - they don't make themselves as accessible as you guys :) ).
I don't know if this is still entirely a Datebk issue. Specifically;
To Summarize:
If I create a link in Bonsai and then check the item off in Bonsai, the Completed Date is set in Palm's Tasks but Datebk continues to show the item in Today's view unless the Due Date is set.
If I check the task off in Datebk, the Due Date is set but not the Completed Date in either Bonsai or Datebk.
However:
If I create a Bonsai item (unlinked) and then I check the item off in Bonsai and THEN create a link, Completed Date is now set properly in Datebk.
Any ideas?
regards

I'm not sure why the state of the task matters before linking. But, your test of checking off the task in DateBk vs the Tasks application is consistent in showing that Tasks sets the current date field, but DateBk does not.
