I love Bonsai and can't imagine life without it. But the inability to format text is really impairing productivity. I would pay for this feature. fwiw, MF

Hmm, I'm not so sure that I would vote for this feature, unless it could be done without negative effects:
  • We'd have to keep compatability with the format of the Palm 'note' field.
  • The note field is pretty restricted in length, so I wouldn't want to lose any characters as formatting codes.
  • Bonsai is great as a quick note taker. I wouldn't want to see Bonsai bloat up or slow down as a result of having to handle all the rtf formatting options

Just my thoughts.

Having said all that, I definitely would support brackets round links so that spaces don't have to be substituted by %20.

I'd also like to see drag-and-drop of links from Windows Explorer straight into the note field in the desktop version...

I agree with Steph. This function will make creation of new links so much nicer and faster... A CRUCIAL function.

I would also like to have some very basic formatting. A bullet list and bold would be sufficient for me.

I am disappointed that the "drag and drop link" feature requested for so long by many has not yet been incorporated into the v5 beta.

If Rich Text is implemented please include an option to turn it off - I also like Bonsai as a quick note taker.

I do think the drag and drop idea is excellent though, and some way of getting rid of the %20 would be brilliant.

I am also in favor for some limited rich-text editing ability. I like to be able to put some words in bold.

When you talk about Rich Text, are you looking for this support in the notes field or the outline item text? Supporting this in the notes field is one thing, but doing so in the item text will be much more difficult. In case your are wondering, this is a Bonsai 6 or beyond feature, nothing near term.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for replying. I think being able to edit note fields using rich text features would be nice. Another features that I need and wish to see it incorporated in the upcoming version is tables. It would be nice to be able to create tables. Also, the "drag and drop link" feature would be really nice to add as I find "press F9, search for the right file and confirm" a bit tedious, especially if there are a lot of files to work with. In fact, this is the way that I attach pictures, pdf and doc to my bonsai outlines.

Thanks

We are very cautious about adding "Rich Text" features to our products. Mainly because of cross platform (device) compatibility. Currently, Windows Mobile is the only platform that supports Rich Text, and even that seems to be slowly taken away by Microsoft. They don't even officially supply a RTF<->PW (Pocket Word is the Rich Text format on the device) converter for syncing anymore. Many devices such as the iPhone and Palm don't support editing in RT. Only displaying.. and even then it is all "manually" done by each app since there isn't a native RTF control. I know that some apps such as Evernote support Rich editing on the desktop, but if the device or other platform you sync to doesn't support it it either shows up as plain text and/or read only. To be honest, mixed format text editing is a large development and support cost, so we really have to consider the pros and cons.

(And I believe that tables are only supported in some Rich Text controls. Unless the control is actually just an embedded browser view showing HTML/CSS, RTF is really a nightmare.)

Once you've added the rich text support on the daynotez desktop to sync with the rich text support you added to daynotez 3 on the palm (please please), you could use the same methods in Bonsai :)

Is drag and drop feature going to be addressed at some point?
