The current version of Bonsai allows you to configure several default settings for a new outline, however one missing setting is for default views. It turns out that the Bonsai Desktop does support a default view to be assigned to a new outline, but it does not allow you to edit this setting. If you are an advanced user and are willing to use regedit to modify this settings yourself, you can follow these instructions to configure it.

Disclaimer: This is an unsupported procedure. Please do not contact Natara support for help about this.

There is a short video covering the procedure here.

The registry setting is found in the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareNatara SoftwareNatara BonsaiDefaults key in the Views registry value. The registry entry text is an XLM string that defines the default views. Replace this string with the views settings you would like Bonsai to use when creating a new outline. One easy way to do this is to create an outline and configure the views you wish to use for the default. You can then copy the appropriate text to this registry value.

Open the outline file that already has the default views you would like to use in a text editor like notepad and look for the “views” element. For example an outline with the default view settings will look like the text shown at the bottom of this message. Take all of this text, remove the carriage returns, and then you can use this to replace the text in the Views registry entry.
