How do I setup the following filter?
uncomplete items AND (item started OR item has no start date)
I saw someone ask about this in 2004 and they ended up with a workaround of giving everything a start date, but that seems a bit much for what I would think is pretty common requirement.
Thanks,
d

You can't string together AND and OR functions in Bonsai filters. This feature is available in Shadow Plan and has been suggested as a future enhancement for Bonsai, although personally I quite like the simple filter creation system of Bonsai.
The work around was proposed by me. It works for me only because I set up all my outline preferences so that all items are automatically given a start date set to the day they are created. Once that preference is set up, I can forget about it. You may find this isn't as big a problem as you think....

I wrote an XSLT to add the start dates and set the default as you described, so I have something that "works" for this one limited use case.
However, I would still argue (strongly) the filter limitations are a serious problem in many use cases. I would add you can have both the "simple filter" and "boolean/advanced filter" options. The user just needs to select advanced before he sees the more powerful options. Outlook has this for View Filters.
