I can't deduce how its supposed to work either. It sure would help if the documentation at least gave a hint. Right now it just says 'The default is to apply the filter to all items in the outline', which doesn't really explain usage at all (just the default which the user can see anyway).
Thanks,

If the parent item at level 3 matches the filter then all the children of that item will be included in the display without checking them against the filter.

Thanks for the info! May I suggest adding that to the help? I personally never would have guessed that. Also, changing "Starting at level" to "Apply filter starting at level" would make things clearer.
It seems that filters have grown rather organically as you have met specific requests. So for those who were around when they were added the various filter options make sense in a historical context, but for new users that don't have this historical context they are generally confusing. A few hours adding some more comments to the help would probably do wonders.
That said, as I have mentioned elsewhere, I think the entire filter setup needs an overhaul to a more generic and powerful approach that supports at least basic AND/OR.
Thanks again,
d

Question about "starting at level #"
If I select to start at level 4, will parents at level 2 not be shown?
If I select to start at level 2, will parents that match at level 4 be shown?
I have always been confused about how to correctly use the "starting at..."
Thanks,
Dwight...

Oh, and I STRONGLY concur with the suggestion that at least an AND/OR operation be added to the filter selection criteria.
Thanks,

Greetings,
Even though "parent shows all children" is one of my most frequently used filters, I am still confused about the "starting at level". What changes result when I change the starting level?
Thanks,
Dwight...

Until Bonsai is examining a parent at the programmed level or below, it does not act on the option (force the display of all children).

New to the forum, but not Bonsai.
Is anyone using the next action filter, and if so how is the outline being set up. It appears a powerful tool, but I cannot get it to be really effective.
I have tried a search on Next action but nothing came up.
