Hope all goes well with the "double release"! Thanks for providing the link to the photos. I assume that the handsome guy labeled as "Grandpa" is also the infamous "Pops!" we all know.

On Cleaning Out
So yesterday the pops just decided to "clean out" (i.e. delete) all earlier posts to this topic "Pops Blog." Whenever you clean out something completely, it gives you the sense of starting afresh, or starting something over. So periodic cleaning out is usually a very good thing, whether it be blog posts or clothes that you haven't worn "forever." It can help you to hone your focus more finely again, rather than remaining cluttered and sometimes overwhelmed by "stuff." We all need to zero in more closely from time to time on those things most important to us, and not allow ourselves to be frittered away by much more peripheral issues. A larger perspective, in other words. More global, less myopic. And so forth. That way we can also adjust more flexibly to the environmental changes going on around us constantly. Well, that's philozophyzer pops for you!!! Have a great weekend i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif .

People More Than Things
Tomorrow (Mon.) will complete the pops first 4 wks. of duty out here in TwinsLand, and then he will be here for the entire month of May (returning home on the 31st). Among other things, this experience has already reminded him that people are more important than things. In fact, last Sun. he was all set to make his scheduled return flight at 7:05 a.m. Tue. ; a going-away Sun. dinner was just a couple of hours away. But when he laid down for a much-needed rest beforehand, within a minute (it seemed) he heard this very familiar little boy's cry in the distance. And just like that, in an instant, he knew that the little boy had tipped the scale in his favor; the pops was to stay straight til May 31. It was a done deal!!! (Of course, the little boy promptly went back to sleep after the pops had communicated his decision to others !!! i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif )

Others Not For Granted
The pops continues to be grateful to Natara staff for the "latitude" that they allow him in using his best discernment in what to include and what to leave out in these various blog posts. Yes, the pops is providing the blog content, but Natara is providing the space and the potential audience. So it's absolutely necessary to not allow freedom to become license. In other words, to not take others for granted when they have provided something on your behalf (even though it may also be on their behalf or others as well). Here again, this has to do with taking the larger rather than the narrower view!

Staying Cool
The 100 degree temps are almost here in Phoenix (my first experience of them). There's a big difference between 90 and 100 the pops has discovered, even with the lower humidity. So daily walks are much more enjoyable earlier in the day! And the locals go from A/C house-to car-to work-to eat-etc.. But the pops still prefers it to the cold, gray days of winter in Michigan.
We all need to identify ways to stay cool in a heated situation. And sometimes it must be provided by a cheerful attitude rather than an artificially-controlled environment. Here again the "larger perspective." Heat (i.e. pressure of different kinds) can have us "over the top" before we know it if we don't stay air-conditioned on the insidei/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif .
Just one of the things that can help is to provide ourselves with "a minute of margin" (also a book title). Just a little extra breathing room on a regular basis so that we avoid becoming overheated and losing our cooli/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif .
------------------
Btw, the pops would prefer that no other user (other than staff for some necessary reason) post on this particular topic, as it's intended to simply be an uninterrupted narrative, rather than an interactive tool.

Less is More
In TwinsLand things can easily go from the simple to the complex in a brief span of time. Just as they can in the corporate world or any number of other situations, including one's personal life. And complexity is accentuated yet further on the national and international levels: for example, what to do when a bird flu pandemic may be poised to strike. So it just seems like the simpler things can be kept in a very complex environment, the lower the unnecessary stress will be. Like there's more than enough necessary stress to go around without "fueling the fire" otherwise. And one of the simplest things we can do, again, is to just appreciate life itself in the arrival of each new day.

On Not Giving Up
Last night the Suns won game 7 of their quarterfinal NBA playoff series with the Lakers, 128-90. Only the 8th team in NBA history to win after being down 3 games to 1. The Lakers had even played games 4 & 5 at home. However, the Lakers basically relied again entirely on Kobe Bryant to pull them through, but he only scored an amazingly low 1 point in the entire 2nd half. On the other hand, the Suns came out with guns blazing as a whole team playing in sync right from the start, including players who had not done well earlier in the series. Yes, a team can win with 1 star, but how much more exciting when it's a whole team effort. Whether that team be in TwinsLand, a husband-wife combo, a corporate staff, or any number of other situations. Teamwork fosters perseverance!

Short can be Tall
Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns just won the NBA's MVP award for the 2nd straight year, a feat achieved only by 8 other NBA players and only 1 other point guard. His vote total of 924 far eclipsed the 688 total of the player in 2nd place. And he did it by appearing as a midget among giants on the court, even though his height is actually 6'3"! The team's chairman had this to say about the modest Nash: "He's one of the few players who I believe...makes everyone better around him. There are very few players who have the ability to directly control the flow of the game..." The Suns owner said: "He's a role model for a lot of people, including me, who look up to him for his ability to constantly motivate the people around him with positive encouragement, even in the face of adversity and when things aren't going well." Yes, short can sometmes certainly be tall!

From Naperville to Las Vegas
Natara staff has flown the coop (see Natara News)! What some people will do to come out to the sunny southwest, while the pops is toiling away here in TwinsLandi/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif . The software developers conference they are attending (at least that's what THEY sayi/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif ) is today supposed to be presented with "a beta version of the revamped windows CE...The update also will provide the basis for Windows Mobile which is built for sophisticated cell phones but which even the company concedes can be clunky." Perhaps the guys will provide us users with more tidbits about the conference in Natara News (not herei/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif ) as they learn more themselves. That way we could learn at least a little bit more right along with them. But then again their free time may be taken up by other things in the city that never sleeps i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif .

Refreshment
We all need refreshment from time to time. Maybe it's a business change-of-scene like the guys are experiencing in LasVegas right now. Maybe it's just knowing that in 20 days the pops will leave this 100+ temp that has begun in Phoenix today for the cooler climes of Michigan (although they're having multiple days of rain there at the moment). Maybe it's been having 4 adults (instead of 3) to care for the twins these past 5 weeks. Maybe the NBA Suns even needed a "refreshing" thrashing in game 2 with the Clippers, so they now see more clearly just how much harder they're going to have work in the balance of this semi-final series. Maybe it's just taking some time to do absolutely nothing but relax for a few moments, an afternoon, or whatever. Yes, refreshment of many different kinds is an essential ingredient to help us see things from the larger perspective, rather than becoming mired down in the urgencies of the moment.

First Show, No Snow
Tony Snow is the new White House press secretary. He convened his first session with reporters yesterday 48 hrs. after assuming the post. Even though the meeting "was a mess" compared to how he would have preferred it to go, it was nevertheless refreshing to read about how he handled himself during it all: "he admitted mistakes, apologized to reporters, and said flatly that he did not know the answer to several questions. In fact, at one point "he asked for forgiveness for reading from a paper"..."because 'as the new kid on the block, I'm not fully briefed into everything." Candor is refreshing, whether it be in government circles, the business world, or any other arena (incl. the family)! Being "real" tends to inspire greater trust and openness in others.

Mother's Day
We all have or have had a mother (mine passed away in 2003). For most of us, our mother is/was an important part of our lives; for some of us this has unfortunately not been the case. Nevertheless, this day (among others) is another reminder of just how significant the lives of others are to our own. And also, again, how people are much more important than things (whether they be pdas & apps, or any other "thing"). It's a time when we can once again say "thank you" and mean it, whether to our mother or others who are important in our lives. For example, this Mother's Day is very special to our daughter. After having to wait 8 1/2 years, she is able to celebrate today the birth of her fraternal twin boys of 8 wks. ago, with everything going fine except for some colic (i.e. "gas"). And we are very grateful that we have the opportunity to celebrate it with her out here in Phoenix!!!

From LasVegas to Naperville
The pops is assuming, rightly or wrongly, that Natara staff have chosen (even if out of sheer necessity) to return to Naperville after their fling in the sunny southwest (leaving the pops out here in Phoenix all by himself). However, they have yet to divulge to us forum users (see Natara News) anything about what they learned from the developers conference there. Which would seem only right that they do so, since we're the ones who sent them out therei/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif . Of course, the pops realizes that no amount of pressure from his perspective will necessarily have any sway with them, but at least he should be protected here in the blog in doing what he can to elicit further goodies from them. After all, we users are not just end-users, but part-and-parcel of the whole process, right??? Like when they want us to help with the PPC/Bonsai beta in due coursei/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif . In fact, it would be really cool if they would start their own occasional column in Natara News towards this end; they could even take turns making entries so that none of them would become overly taxedi/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif . Of course, do not think that the pops' proposal is intended to "bait" them in any way, as they have a mind of their owni/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif .
---------------------------------------
Suns Suffer Solar Eclipse
The Clippers allowed the Suns to score 12 straight points last night to come within 1 point (106-105) with 56 sec. remaining in 4th quarter, but the Suns let them get away with a 114-107 final score. The pops is pulling for the Suns partly because he's in their home city right now and partly because he likes their team play and their aggressiveness. Now they return to Phoenix for the next 2 games which hopefully will gain them the series; going back to L.A. for game 7 would NOT be good!!!i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif .

Suns Clip LA
It wasn't pretty! The Suns barely squeaked by with a 2 OT victory, 125-118, last night. The game could easily have gone either way after Phoenix squandered a 19-point 3rd quarter lead! Both teams played exceedingly well in not giving up, but the Suns again "gutted it out" for a victory. They now head back to LA for game 6 on Thur. nite, up 3 games to 2, but having to deal with LA's significant home court advantage (the 2 teams are so evenly matched that it alone can make the final difference for either team). What it will likely come down to is which team REALLY wants the series the most: perseverance, sweat, the right moves in critical situations, etc.. Just as in life itselfi/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif .

People, People
Our oldest son, wife, & 15-month old son arrived here last night after a trip to California. They fly back to MI next Tues. (from LasVegas interestinglyi/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif . Fortunately for all of us most of their week here will be spent at a house owned by former major league baseball player John Olerud & wife Kelly (friends of our daughter & husband). The twins keep us busy enough as it is!!!i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif [Btw, a week ago my brother-in-law's parents made their first trip to LasVegas (he's 92); after a week, she says "been there, done that."]

More Snow, No Snow Job
Tony Snow (new White House press secretary) had his first televised press conference (after the one just with reporters alone). During the conf. the subject became a totally non-political one: the colon cancer that he experienced a year or so ago, and the chemo used to treat it successfully. His mother had died from it when he was 17, and he had had colitis for 21 yrs. Then sometime within the past 2 yrs. he contracted the cancer itself, and had 6 months of chemo himself. During the press conf. he could not continue to speak for a full 1 1/2 minutes due to the emotion he was experiencing as he reflected upon the ordeal, and also the wonderful caring of others toward him during the experience. A good example of how the "real" is always better than the "politically correct." This guy is one of the most personable and refreshing that the pops has seen on the political front recently (regardless of political party).
----------------------------------
NBA Finals
Besides the Suns/Clippers semi-final action, it's interesting to note what's happening in the other quarter-final action. The Pistons were up 2-0 on the Cavaliers, but now trail them 3-2; and the Mavericks are now just 3-2 over the Spurs. Whoever eventually gets to the Finals, it should be an exciting Series!!

NBA Update
Eastern Conf: Cleveland 3, Detroit 2 at Cleveland tonight; Miami 4, New Jersey 1 (series over).
Western Conf: Dallas 3, San Antonio 2 at Dallas tonight; Los Angeles 3, Phoenix 3 at Phoenix Mon. nite.
Go Sunsi/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif

Momentum
Sports is one of the areas of life where you especially get to see momentum at work! Our daughter was fortunate both to play on a state championship volleyball team several times and then to have her college education fully paid for through a full VB scholarship to Arizona State Univ. In both of those situations and now in the Suns/Clippers series, we've seen how the role of momentum can be in effect big-time on the outcome. For example, hopefully the Suns can really take advantage of having 3 days off and a home court crowd on Mon. nite; if that's not enough, it would be one indication that LA were the better team in this specific series. Hopefully, that will not be the case!
