Has anyone changed their "Global Settings / fonts" and can they recommend one / some that are good looking / useful? Plain old Arial seems hard to look at after awhile.

Well, this is one of those eternal "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" issues, but for what it's worth:

I like sans serif fonts on-screen, and, like you, find Arial boring. At the moment, I'm using Verdana, which is nice at small point sizes (I use 8) but I'm not so keen on larger sizes. Tahoma is nice too (MS apps such as Outlook make a lot of use of Tahoma), as is Trebuchet. Gill Sans is quite nice as well, but less economical with space. Possibly better for notes that outline items.

For serif fonts, I like Georgia a lot.

Thanks for the reply. I think you are right on target. I ended up picking some similar fonts.

If anybody else has good on screen suggestions, chip in!

Yup, Comic Sans has a lot going for it as well. A bit less formal, but very readable.

On more general screen suggestions, I like a subtle division between alternate rows in the outline (at the moment I'm using white and a pale grey), and I generally use a pale yellow post-it-like colour for my notes. All a bit boring, I suppose, but it doesn't get in the way when you're spending a lot of time in the app.

Thanks again everyone; this is great input.

I like the pale alternate row comment. I've tried the alternate row before, but the contrast between the white and one of the default Windows colors was hard on the eyes. Neal's "pale" suggestion was an "ah-ha!" moment for me. I'm going to give it a try.

Thanks to Boomer and Bryan for the Comic Sans idea. It's very similar to the Lucida Sans I've decided on. Both seem to "look good" and are comfortable on the eyes. Still large enough to read, but, allows for enough information on the screen.
