I only began using Bonsai with 1.1.1 version and have been looking for a good outliner. I used ECCO (from NetManage) for several years (and still do) but they no longer make the product. Bonsai has the good parts of ECCO and adds the palm and sync functions. I also compared BrainForest recently. All that is background to say I really like Bonsai and have a couple of minor suggestions that would make it nicer from my perspective. I have not had any problems using it in beta version, it is easy to learn and use, the commands are clear, and the documentation is pretty good.

INDENTS -- the palm version indents with no blank spaces but the desk version has 3 or so spaces indentening. These spaces take up unnecsssary space on the screen but more importaly they do not make the printed version look attractive.

HEADER/FOOTER -- in the desk version it would be nice to have options to print date or custom comments in a header/footer. You already have options for fonts and notes inclusion. This addition would allow attractive and informating printed sheets.

One question I have about the rate of changes in the beta versions - they seem to occur rapidly. What is the rough plan for the next few months - finish 1.1.1 soon and then more coming monthly, or it is pretty close to the target features and will be around for awhile before the next version?

Thank you for your comments.

Regarding indentation, is the blank space you are referring to between the number and the start of the text?

We will continue with incremental improvements.

George,

When i went to replicate the space location, I think i discovered the reason it is happening. It depends on the format you use, but I was unable to test enough to see what was caucing the difference. I tried changing the number of digits for each level of outline and changing the simple/to do format - both in the preferences box. I have a file that prints without the space and a file that prints with the space, and I could not tell what was different in set up (or changing the set up and making a new entry - as I could not determin how to change the format of already posted material).

The extra space is before the number.

If there is extra space before the number, then the preference to show the item's status (checkbox or progress bar) is enabled. 'Simple' items do not have status, so the area would be blank (a dash is drawn).

Another option for your header/footer request is to look into the export template feature of Bonsai. You can design a custom HTML export to get the style you are looking for. Then export your outline using the template and print it from your browser.

I have been looking for a program like this for over a year. Having good sync to desktop makes this the choice for me! I downloaded 1.0.7 and was happy enough, but was frustrated to see that the desktop could not be filtered. Went back on-line to tell you and found beta 1.1.1 which fixes this and more. Good service. I registered this morning.

I have a few "widhlist" items which I'll post in the other forum.

Does the keypad +/- work in Windows Explorer?
You might also check to see if the scroll-lock or num-lock makes a difference.

For everyone, there is a difference between the keys +/- located on the numeric digit keypad area, versus the +/- located on the top row of the main section as shift '=' and the key '-' to the left.
